Russia Doubles Down on Diplomatic Push on Ukraine

(MENAFN) Russia remains dedicated to pursuing diplomatic channels to resolve the Ukraine conflict while working to ease global flashpoints including Venezuela and Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared Tuesday.

"We remain committed, as President (Vladimir) Putin has repeatedly stressed, to finding a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis," Lavrov stated during his annual press briefing on Russian diplomatic efforts in 2025.

Lavrov insisted Russia has consistently demonstrated willingness to settle the Ukraine standoff, but accused Western powers of deliberately undermining negotiated agreements.

Addressing broader international crises, the foreign minister emphasized Moscow's interest in defusing multiple regional conflicts. "We are interested in helping to reduce tensions in all areas that have now escalated and which I have listed, be it Venezuela or especially the Iranian situation," he said.

The senior Russian diplomat urged the international community to recognize Iran's sovereign right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, characterizing this acknowledgment as essential to cooling hostilities with Tehran.

Lavrov argued the current international system operates on a "might makes right" foundation, asserting that Western nations have abandoned the principles "supposedly underpinning the world order favored by the West have all been cast aside," while internal divisions intensify across Western societies.
