Trump Claims Venezuela “Will Be Turning Over” 30-50M Barrels of Oil

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Venezuelan officials "will be turning over" between 30 million and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, with proceeds designated to "benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States."

In a Truth Social post, Trump declared he would personally oversee revenue distribution from the oil sales, which will be conducted at current market rates. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright has been tasked with implementing the operation, with shipments destined for American unloading facilities.

The announcement follows Saturday's U.S. military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the forcible detention of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife on Venezuelan territory. The armed intervention has sparked intense international criticism and domestic protests, with critics characterizing the action as illegal and motivated primarily by access to Venezuela's substantial petroleum resources.

During Saturday's post-operation press briefing, Trump referenced "oil" approximately 20 times. In a Monday interview with media, he indicated Washington might provide financial support to American energy corporations for reconstructing Venezuela's oil production infrastructure.
