Venezuelan Envoy Accuses US of ‘State Piracy’

(MENAFN) Venezuela’s representative to the United Nations strongly condemned the confiscation of oil tankers by American forces during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

Calling the actions “state piracy,” Samuel Moncada claimed the operations signify a modern form of maritime crime carried out by a sovereign nation.

Moncada alleged that President Donald Trump’s administration is attempting to gain full control of Venezuela’s land, petroleum reserves, and mineral resources under the direct threat of military intervention.

“Today the masks have come off,” he declared. “All the toxic excuses used to poison public opinion are confronted with a harsh reality: senior US officials announcing their real objectives. It is not drugs, it is not security, it is not freedom. It is oil, it is mines and it is land.”

The envoy described these demands as a “confession of the crime of aggression” and likened them to a colonial annexation that revives the Monroe Doctrine. He cautioned that Venezuela is only the “first target” in a larger geopolitical strategy to dominate Latin America.

Moncada further contended that the ongoing naval blockade is a deliberate military maneuver designed to besiege the country, weaken its economic and defense capacities, undermine social unity to spark internal disorder, and create conditions that could trigger an external armed assault by leaving the nation vulnerable.
